Volunteers Got Pampered!

Volunteers Got Pampered! (Yes!, you heard it right!)

In celebration of the National Volunteers Week, once again, SOWINS (South Okanagan Women In Need Society) held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Event on April 25, 2009 at the The Can Coffee in Penticton, B.C.  It is SOWINS’ way of showing their gratitude to the many amazing and dedicated advocates of violence against women and children – their volunteers!

To show their appreciation to them, an extra-ordinary event was planned and volunteers were up for a surprise!  Since it has always been the volunteers themselves who give their time, money and efforts, SOWINS’ deemed it was their turn to give back … by PAMPERING them.  With volunteers being the backbone of the society, the annual appreciation event is never enough to thank them, but shouldn’t be missed!   The need to eradicate abuse of women and children is a long and continuing battle.  But, in one way or another, events like this is a good opportunity for them to unwind, re-charge and re-focus towards the mission and meaning of “compassion” and the importance of putting this word into action!

The invite and the e-mail primer about the event …

A group of aestheticians, masseuses, beauty experts and health and wellness professionals were invited to participate in this occasion.  Each of them were given a designated space to showcase their products and services.  For about an hour and half, they provided the volunteers with a taste of pampering that they offer.

When it comes to skin care and make up trends,  Mary Kay is the expert!!!  Jan & Georgie were so gracious to meet SOWINS volunteers as they educate them more on how to take good care of their beauty and exude confidence effortlessly!  Thanks, Jan & Georgie!

Natalie and USANA‘s science based nutritional health and personal care products graced the occasion as well, to emphasize to volunteers the importance of keeping themselves healthy and glowing all the time!

Background music all throughout the occasion was provided by Concertarte Chamber Players lead by Ms. Liz Lupon.

Clearly, the event has everything for the senses — to see, feel, hear, touch, and smell!

After getting pampered, round tables and chairs were set up for volunteers to enjoy their dinner catered by The Can Coffee.  A short programme was held with Star Volunteers given recognition for outstanding service.  Tokens and relaxation Gift Certificates were courtesy of Spa Tranquila.  The final treat of the night was the stage play entitled “Enchanted April” by the wonderful and talented actors of the Many Hats Theatre Production.  Truly, another entertaining performance delivered and enjoyed by SOWINS volunteers!  Please check this website to know more about the most passionate and talented threatrical people of South Okanagan! The event ended on a high note.  And the essence of it all, aside from saying “Thank You” to the many amazing and compassionate volunteers of SOWINS, is to keep inspiring other people to volunteer!  … to work for and with women and children!  It probably has not struck your interest or awareness yet, or for whatever reason or hesitation you may have in getting involved in the prevention of violence against women and children.  But take time, and listen to your inner voice … because efforts put altogether could be worth while especially when providing comfort to a woman, who could be you!
